• Rosemary Essential Oil — distilled from the rosemary herb rather than pressed from it.
• Jojoba Oil — pressed from the seeds of the jojoba shrub.
• Argan Oil — pressed from the kernels of the argan tree.
• Tea Tree Oil — distilled from the leaves of the tea tree.
• Olive Oil — pressed from olives; the one name on this list most people already keep in the kitchen.
• Vitamin E — the one name on the label that is not an oil.

Nine plant oils and Vitamin E. Vitamin E is not an oil, which is why this page never counts ten of them. Paraben free, and the scent comes only from the oils themselves.

1. Apply a small amount to the scalp and hair.
2. Massage the scalp gently with your fingertips.
3. Work the oil down through the lengths of your hair.
4. Leave it on for a few hours, or overnight — whichever suits you.
5. If you prefer to wash it out, leave it on overnight first.
6. Use it three to four times a week.

For best results, use it consistently, as part of the hair-care routine you already keep.

Plant oils carry fatty acids and other lipids, and those are what condition the hair and the scalp you massage them into — coconut, sweet almond and pumpkin seed oils among the nine in this bottle.

Left on for a few hours, an oil can coat the hair shaft as a thin film, and a coating like that helps reduce moisture loss — which is why dry hair can feel less rough and easier to manage after it has been oiled and washed.

The same film can lubricate the surface. Hairs that slide past each other instead of catching are easier to comb and tangle less, and a thin layer over the hair shaft can improve the way it reflects light, which is the shine people mean when they talk about oiled hair.
